You’re working away on your computer for hours, go to save your project and there it is, the dreaded “Storage almost full” notification. Your computer begins running incredibly slowly and it just doesn’t seem worth keeping… it’s cheaper and easier to get a new one, right? Wrong! There’s a much more cost-effective option to upgrade your computer rather than replacing it. An SSD upgrade is the way forward, but what is it and why is it so great?
What Is An SSD Upgrade?
An SSD upgrade is when you replace the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) which stores all of your computer data with a Solid State Drive (SSD). This will completely change your computing experience for the better and leave you with that new computer feeling.
Benefits of An SSD Upgrade…
There are so many benefits of an SSD upgrade, including…
Faster Speeds…
When an SSD is installed, it speeds up your entire computer system. This includes boot up time, program loading times and everything in between. These faster times allow you to get more done in less time. Depending on a few factors, a standard SSD upgrade can be 15 times faster, and even certain types can be 40 times faster.
Improved Multitasking…
Due to the super fast speeds, you’ll be able to run several programs and open as many tabs as you need in your favourite internet browser without computer lag slowing you down. This allows you to multitask like a pro and get way more done than you would with a standard HDD.
Reduced Noise…
Unlike the HDD, an SSD has no moving parts. There is a clear noticeable difference with no spinning disks. Due to the lower energy consumption and the lack of heat from the SSF, your fans will work less to expel the heat. Less mechanical noise and less fan noise… what’s not to love?
Enhanced Energy…
Due to an SSD not having moving parts and completing tasks a lot more efficiently, the knock on effect of that is the drive is consuming a lot less energy than its mechanical counterpart. Less energy and power consumption will all help with the longevity of the rest of your laptop or computer components.
Better Durability…
As already mentioned, HDDs have moving parts. These moving parts are spaced very close together, which means that whilst you’re waiting for your new tab to load up and throw your laptop onto the side whilst you get a drink, those moving parts can collide and cause critical damage… This doesn’t happen with an SSD as there is no movement within the drive, offering additional shock and vibration resistance.
Decreased Temperature…
As mentioned before, the lack of moving parts in an SSD means that it produces a lot less excess heat than the HDD. This decreases the overall temperature of your device, extending its life.
Magnetism…
Although both drives are affected by electrical faults, after all they are both still electrical pieces of equipment, only HDDs are affected by magnetised devices. Whilst there is shielding on the outside of a HDD to help reduce the risk, would you like to chance it? We definitely wouldn’t. SSD upgrades are the way forward.
